The optical performance of achromatic doublet lenses is far superior to single lenses. It is suitable for occasions with demanding imaging and beam control requirements. Achromatic double cemented lens is a kind of achromatic lens formed by bonding low dispersion positive lens of crown glass and high dispersion negative lens of flint glass. When designing, at three wavelengths of blue (486.1nm), green (546.1nm) and red (656.3nm), the different values of dispersion and lens shape are optimized to achieve the minimum chromatic aberration. Therefore, the doublet lens can be used in the entire visible light region. The spherical aberration is also optimized during the design. Compared with a single lens, the spherical aberration of the achromatic doublet lens is much smaller.

Bonding achromatic lens is an achromatic consists of a positive low-index Crown Glass lens element cemented to a negative high-index Flint Glass lens element. the optical elements are chosen so as to cancel chromatic aberration at two well-separated wavelengths, usually in the blue and red region of the spectrum. Focal length is constant at those two wavelengths and focal length shifts are virtually eliminated across the visible wavelengths. One frequent use is to achieve diffraction limited focusing of a laser beam. Negative Achromatic doublet lenses are typically used when there is a need to eliminate chromatic aberration. In addition to reducing chromatic aberration at the design wavelengths, spherical aberration and coma are greatly reduced.
